CineSignal
What is this thing? Why does it exist? Why should I care about it?
What the Hell is This Thing?
I get it. There’s already a ton of platforms out there. XKCD has a specific comic for this sort of thing → https://xkcd.com/927/ But I thought that maybe the ones that exist don’t do what we need and they’re all just bubbling with ads or harvesting your data like it’s the matrix.
I wanted to make something for me and my community to help us showcase ourselves. What we do. Without everyone having to be an expert computer scientist like me.
A couple of items…
Everybody I know who’s an actor, director, writer, basically has to do the same thing to give themselves an online web presence: Build a damn website. And nobody really seems to like it. Their sites fail within a year or so because squarespace hikes their prices. The Wordpress becomes outdated and attacked. It’s so frustrating. Plus all those people exist in separate silo’d universes without being able to view or discover one another.
What if there was a platform that was stupid easy to use, free for 80% of folks but still meeting their needs. Standardized for ease of viewing but customizable enough to give people a sense of ownership over what they post, like OG Myspace.
What if it used AI to enhance the creative’s presence but never to replace it? As a way to easily turn your PDF resume into a functioning homepage? How about bringing the screenwriter’s visions to life without having to break the bank?
And to be honest, most of all this exists because I wanted to use it. It affected me! It’s hard enough in Hollywood to get anyone to give a shit about your script. Emailing it around creates version chaos. And who the heck has time to read a screenplay anymore? Why not turn it into a podcast?
I wanted to help cut through the NOISE of filmmaking and boost the SIGNAL.
Cool. Go on.
Okay so big soapbox pie in the sky? I’d love to make a place where we can connect, collaborate, and celebrate each other against the machinations of capitalism at all costs. Money? Yea, I need to pay rent too, but I’m trying not to gouge people or steal their identities or data.
Where It's Going
I know it’s wild, but I genuinely want to make a place that’s a home base for ALL filmmaking creatives to showcase their talents. From PAs to Marquee Stars. I hope you can find a home here. And if you feel like it’s not for you, then drop me a line and I’ll see what we can do to make you a space to collaborate. [email protected]
Finally
I don’t want to live in a universe where the most talented and delightful creatives struggle to meet the folks that help them make their visions come to life. I want to see those beautiful and incredible things live on the big screen. If this platform helps one more thoughtful collaboration happen, one more script read deeply, one more reel seen by the right person? Then we’ve succeeded.
