Unburied
by Stanley Wong
"A scatterbrained Chinese immigrant tries to save his family’s restaurant from a terrifying undead monster that followed him all the way from the old country."
Unburied is inspired by Stanley’s life as the son of a Chinese immigrant who became a renowned local chef and restaurant owner in rural Louisiana. It asks the question: What if the restaurant had fallen upon hard times and needed saving and then a curse from the old country showed up to make things far worse than anyone could imagine? That curse is based on the jiangshi, a famous monster in Chinese folklore that is similar to a vampire or a zombie, but carries its own traits that are very different from those Western monsters. On the surface the jiangshi looks ridiculous. It is widely known as a “hopping corpse” and is easy to dismiss due to its slow, almost silly nature. But its power is terrifying and deadly, and grows exponentially as the jiangshi claims more victims. In other words, it’s easy to underestimate, just like our main character. These dichotomies, a Chinese immigrant in rural Louisiana, a Chinese-Cajun fusion restaurant, a silly monster that is deceptively destructive, mix to form a unique horror gumbo, a fun, funny, scary film that will appeal to horror audiences everywhere and leave people wanting to see it again and again.
