"When a lonely thirtysomething’s neglected aquarium becomes a sentient “nganga” slime demanding sustenance, he must confront his shameful secret and, with the brash woman who loves him, perform a bizarre ritual of intimacy to save himself or lose his life and love to living chaos."

Nganga is a darkly comic supernatural romance about Peter, a neurotic thirty-something whose neglected apartment aquarium, an ancestral “nganga” of chaotic, life-draining slime, manifests into a hungry, childlike slime creature that upends his attempts at intimacy. When his new flame Marisol, a blunt and pragmatic Cuban-descended barista, recognizes the curse, the pair must confront secrets, rituals, and their own awkward desires as they negotiate caring for and containing a creature born of their shame and yearning. Playful, gross, and tender, Nganga blends body-horror surrealism with rom-com awkwardness to ask what we’ll sacrifice for love and who (or what) we become when we finally stop hiding.

Matt Moeller has aspired to be a writer, director, and funnyman since living in Orlando, Florida in 2004 which is basically the cretaceous period at this point. He’s written a book about improv comedy, hosted a live show where he got romantically dumped on stage 20 times in one night, made a ton of little fun videos for channel101 and YouTube, and now he’s full port into writing and directing horror shorts. This is the first you’ve heard of him and you’re unimpressed, but somewhat tickled at his self deprecation and meta humor. Wait, he’s standing right behind you right now, isn’t he?
